So here’s the deal, my buddy Phil and his fiancée Roni are getting married in September. They’re trying to do things on the cheap. They were trying to find a photographer and thought to themselves, “Hey, that crazy kid Mike takes good photographs!”
Yeah, so here I am, now officially signed up to take photos for Phil and Roni. I think my skills will be fine, but I don’t think my equipment is up to it.
(FYI, I shoot with Pentax equipment)
A) I don’t have a good flash. Part of the wedding will be indoors and I will need a flash. The little dinky onboard one is not going to cut it.
B) I don’t have a decent set of lenses for a wedding. I’m still using the kit lens on my camera. Its a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. Its decent, but just won’t cut it, especially for the indoor part of the wedding.
I need something like the 17-50 f/2.8 lens Pentax has.
C) I don’t have a backup body. If my K100D Super broke, I’d be SOL
D) I just don’t think my camera body is good enough for it. Its only 6MP, which will produce decent enlargements to like 8×10, but larger than that, you might start to notice graininess.
A and B will probably be fixed before September. I’m looking at purchasing a decent flash made by Sigma. I think its a EF530 or something.
I’m also looking at getting a new lens or two. Either a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, or a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 and Sigma 28mm f/2.0. Either the Tamron or the two primes will cover what I need. I may get the primes and zoom the way people used to, with their feet.
This will be fun.
