1983 Novara Veloce

I miss this bike. Nothing symbolizes the 70s and early 80s of bicycling in United States like a store brand bicycle from the era.

I picked up this 1983 Novara Veloce. For the uninitiated, Novara is REI’s bicycle brand. This bicycle even still has an REI Co-Op sticker on it.

The frame is ChroMo 4130. Its a gorgeous bike.

I decided to turn it into my “city” bike. I removed the drop bars and the original 6 speed freewheel. Added some 700c wheels with an 8spd cassette, a front dynamo hub, a pair of dyno powered LED lights, a Nitto North Roads handle bar, a pair of Falcon friction thumbies, and some Portland Design Works bamboo grips. Oh yeah, threw on a Brooks saddle for good measure.
